Pulling Down Strongholds: How to Unlock Spiritual Prisons by faith

Pulling down strongholds

Have you ever dreamed of being held in a prison? Was it a bad dream that caused you to wish it were never true? The other night I had a similar dream. I was held in a prison and each time I attempted to escape, there were prison guards holding me back. I sensed the spiritual nature of these guards, and I knew this dream was about pulling down spiritual strongholds.

I’ve had many similar dreams. I have had to wrestle with demons while I sleep. These dreams have opened my eyes to the nature of spiritual prisons and how important it is to escape them.

Breaking evil chains from our lives will be the most freeing thing that ever happens to us. This is because evils chains hold us back. They not only hold us back, but they keep us in fortified walls, similar to those of human prisons.

Have you ever been to a human prison? Do you realize how hard it can be to escape it? This is the same reality when we are held by spiritual evil chains. They are fortified, deeply rooted, and hold us with diabolic forces not easy to escape. Yet, escaping spiritual prisons can be our reality through the grace of our Most Powerful God. Pulling down strongholds is possible through the Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

What Are Spiritual Strongholds?

Many people think that we live in a physical reality. Though it seems the world is physical, life itself is spiritual. Even the words we speak are unseen, yet they have the power to build up and destroy the people we interact with. Spiritual strongholds are also spiritual.

As we look out in the opened world, we see one full of pain and grief. We see people destroying themselves and also one another. Whether it be alcoholism, or drug addiction, people destroy themselves with evil habits. But what are these habits, and where do they come from?

These are spiritual strongholds that hold us against our will, and cords that must be broken from our lives to set us free to be our best.

I’m often touched by the pain I see among us. The other day I heard a couple arguing, to the point of almost fighting, and tears fell from my eyes, because I knew they were fighting against a spirit. There are wicked spirits that are up to nothing good, and we must both identify and destroy their hold on our lives.

The good news is that there are spiritual weapons to combat spiritual strongholds. We can experience freedom through God’s grace and abundant life through His death and resurrection.

What Are the Weapons That Aid Us in Pulling Down Strongholds

Since life is spiritual, and there are spiritual chains that hold us against our will, it makes sense that there are also weapons to set us free. The Bible speaks about the weapons of our warfare, that are mighty to the pulling down of strongholds.

(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 2 Corinthians 10:4

When we face the chains of captivity, these are our defense. But what are they, and how do we use them? Imagine how hard it is to use a weapon you cannot see or hold in your hands. Ghanaians would say “It’s not easy oo,” or Jamaicans “It no easy at all.” Yet, all things are possible to him who believes.

The power we have over strongholds is not physical, but it is all in the mind. The mind is a battlefield and this is where we win and lose our battles. What we see on the outside is what is going on on the inside. As a result, we must deal with the troubles inside us to be free on the outside.

The Power of Faith in Pulling Down Strongholds

Do you suffer from a wounded mind? Are you held down because you are not thinking correctly? You might think that spiritual strongholds are some distant thing that is not easily discernible, but with the spirit of God we can both discern and destroy them. First we must know what God says about pulling down strongholds, and then we must believe what He says. After this, we must apply this knowledge in our daily walk.

This is very easy for me to write, mainly because I have had to both wrestle and destroy strongholds. Yet, I know it is not an easy task, because evil habits and wicked spirits are very diabolic in nature. They are from the pit of hell and from the hands of satan. But take heart because escaping spiritual prisons can be done when we believe in the words of God.

What Does the Bible Say About Pulling Down Strongholds?

Ephesians 6 lists the weapons we have over spiritual strongholds. It tells us how to use these mighty weapons to set us free from the snares of the wicked one. As we embrace and use them, they will set us free through the power of our strong God. No chain can hold back the person who trusts in the Lord and believes in His saving grace. You might encounter many defeats, but you must never be defeated.

13. Therefore take up the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you will be able to stand your ground, and having done everything, to stand. 14. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness arrayed, 15. and with your feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace. 16. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

As you study this Scripture in Ephesians, you’ll realize that all the weapons that the Bible lists are in the mind. The Belt of Truth, the Breastplate of Righteousness, the Helmet of Salvation and the Shield of Faith are all in the mind. It also speaks about the Word of God, which we have to get inside our minds.

By believing the Word of God we fortify our shield of faith, and by following it, we reinforce our breastplate of righteousness. As we study His Word and digest it in our spirits, we will activate the Mighty Power of God, able to lose us from the bonds of the devil.

Fasting From Sin and Pressing in Prayer

Fasting is not all about staying away from food, it is also staying away from sin. The true fast of God is to stay away from sin and to do His good works. As we seek to be released from spiritual strongholds, we must stop doing the things that got us trapped in the first place. Sin is the culprit and is the enemy of our soul.

Pulling down strongholds means fasting from sin and embracing the truth in God’s Word. As we do this, our Good Father will break the yoke of bondage from our necks. He will free us to be and become, and set us on the pinnacle of His glory. Don’t you give up. As you wrestle with spiritual chains, be consistent on your knees, and wage war with the rival of your soul.

As you press in prayer, God Most High will lift you above your enemies. He’ll command Michael the Archangel to destroy the bonds of wickedness from your life.

Concluding Thoughts

Pulling down strongholds is necessary for us to be released into the good works of God. As we are set free, we’ll be able to become God’s best and be purposeful in His Presence. The power of faith can break every evil chain that ensnares us, and destroy every wicked diabolic bond. As we trust God, He’ll release us from the spiritual prisons that hold us captive against our will.

As you go, may you grow in faith and believe that every stronghold will be broken off your life. Know that the Lord strong and mighty, is mighty in battle, and even mightier to save you. Won’t you trust Him and stay in His Presence as you go on? God bless you.
