There is no safer thing to do than to sit at God’s Right Hand. When we do this, we can be sure that our enemies will be our footstools. Luke 10:19 declares; “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy.” This scripture tells us that we have been given power over every enemy.
Life is full of enemies. Whether we know them, or not, there are forces of darkness that are against us. These forces are so diabolic that they seek to drench us of our very ability to go on. Our lives are targeted by demons and devils that are utmostly wicked, desperately wanting to snatch us from God’s right hand.
Yet, when we face this reality, we also have a Friend Who lifts us high above these enemies. When we know our Friend we are already dwelling in victory. It is wonderful that we have a steadfast Friend Who is Immovable, Mighty and Immeasurably Strong. His one desire is to see us whole – and doing the good works of God.
Who Is This Friend
In Matthew 16 Jesus asked His Disciples the Question “Who do men say that I Am?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” This answer was not what Jesus was looking for. He was asking them Who do they say that He was. And so He replied to them,“But what about you?”, “Who do you say I am?” Then Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
I use this story to emphasize our need to have personal knowledge of our True Friend. Jesus is our Friend. As we walk with Him we can be sure that all things will work together for our good. I’ve watched Him turn ashes into beauty in my own life and I can attest to His abounding love. He’ll use our broken pieces as His building blocks as we trust Him.
The Bible says that Christ has gone into Heaven and is seated at the Right Hand of the Father. There He has authority, dominion and power forever and ever. Imagine that this Christ that I write about is our Friend and His Friendship secures us from the wiles of the evil one.
The Significance Of The Right Hand
The right hand is used to signify power and dominion. It is also often used to depict blessings and favour. There are many scriptures that speak about the right hand. One that I particularly love is found in Isaiah 41:10 and says:
Here God uses the depiction of the right hand to assure Israel that they will not be destroyed. Jacob also blessed Joseph’s sons by placing his right hand on the head of the younger son, Ephraim, indicating a special blessing (Genesis 48:14-20)
In many cultures, the right hand is traditionally preferred for activities and tasks, such as hand shakes and salutes. This shows that the right hand is often preferred as a sign of respect.
The Right Hand Is A Symbol Of Power And Authority
The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
Psalm 110:1
In this Scripture found in Psalm 110:1 we learn about God putting Jesus at His right hand until His enemies are made His footstool. In this we see a depiction of not only power and authority but also safety, honour and rest. One beautiful thing about the Right Hand of God is that we can rest there.
It Also Provides Rest
As we sit at God’s Right Hand we can safely rest there. There is a house they call a safe house. This is a dwelling that is disguised in order to make it safe. It can be hidden in plain sight or in an area where it is not easily found. The idea behind this is that it will provide a safe place of rest for its occupants.
You’ll probably understand this if you’ve ever been in a position of safety. There are some places that you will have to constantly watch your back. Yet on the contrary, there are places where you will be very relaxed, having the idea of safety and rest.
We can consider the right hand of God as our safe house where we can rest. It is wonderful how Jesus promised us that as we come to Him with our burdens, He will give us rest. In God’s safe house we can rest peacefully, knowing that He defeats our enemies.
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28
We Too Must Sit At God's Right Hand
Like any other thing, we have a role to play as we walk with God. God is available and we must choose to sit with Him. When someone has gone through the valley of the shadow of death, they learn of the saving grace of God. The Psalmist said: Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. David learnt that no valley could have prevented God’s Presence. He also learnt that it was his duty to safely rest at God’s right hand.
Yet, this doesn’t come easy. It will involve a lot of sitting and patiently waiting, until God comes through for us.
Some times we’ll have to sit in burning coals of fire, staying and absorbing the heat of the furnace, with the expectation that God will come roaring As the Lion of Judah to save us. In this we’ll learn that our God is Mighty to save.
One wonderful thing about the Right Hand of God is that we can truly rest there. He is our safe dwelling place where we can rest when we become tired and weary. David says it best, that: Lord, I have loved the habitation of Your house, And the place where Your glory dwells. Here David tells of the love he has for the place where the Glory of God dwells. This is His safe dwelling where He finds rest.
Wait Until God Works It Out
We must sit patiently and wait until God works it our for us. Whatever our ‘ it ‘ is, let us stick to it until our strong God rises up for us. We must be assured in our waiting that His grace is sure as the rising sun and His truth will fulfill as the new day.
There is a beautiful song that says God will work it out. We can be certain that God will work it out when we endure long enough. I have watched God work miracles in my own life to the point where my enemies have crumbled before me. I’ve seen demons flee from me and mountains fall when He comes down and Fight in His authority. He is our roaring Lion Who will defend us as we trust Him.
As you stick with the process of God, eventually you will see all your enemies crumble before you. What are you fighting with today? Is it stress and depression from the many issues of life? Be encouraged. God is Lord over depression too. Or, maybe you are overwhelmed from a broken past filled with trauma and hurt. You too can be encouraged. The God of depression is the God of trauma too. He will make all your enemies crumble right before you.
The Bible says that God laughs at the wicked because He knows their day is coming. Won’t you wait while God laughs.
Some Things You Must Do While You Wait
As you wait you must be sure that they that wait on God will renew their strength. We are often weakened by the things we go through. Yet God sees, knows and He understands very well.
Patience is a virtue and a weapon in the Spirit. When we wait on the Lord, we show that we trust Him and believe He will come through for us. It also shows how much we trust in His Right Hand.
The power we find in waiting is what we do – while we wait.
Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.
Psalm 27:4
The scripture says that while we wait, we must be of good courage. Good courage means that we dwell in the Joy of the Lord that gives us strength. It also means that we dwell in faith and not in fear.
Perhaps the most important thing we must do while we wait is to not give up. There are many times when I have felt the urge to give in. Yet I have waited and seen Him come down from Heaven to defend me. There are many enemies that will come to defeat us but there is one strong God Who’ll roar in our defence.
Apart from being patient and of good cheer, we must also pray, meditate on the scriptures, and most importantly we must be faithful. We must be cheerful knowing that Jesus Christ our Might Strong God has overcome the world.

Concluding Thoughts
We have learnt that there is power and dominion at God’s Right Hand. It is a place that we can rest from all our struggles with peace of mind and the assurance that every little thing will be just fine.
There are many enemies that will want to uproot us from rest and cause chaos in our lives, yet we have one strong God Who is mighty to save. This is the God we must trust in as we face the turbulence of life.
Be encouraged. The Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah is the One Who fights for you and defeats every and any enemy. Keep pressing and be convicted in your heart that all things will work together for your good as you rest at God’s right hand and trust Him. God bless you.
